INTRODUCTION:
The recent rise of AI generated visual art has spawned a polarizing debate on the Internet, putting the ethicality and authenticity of AI art into question. In this digital ethnography, I will explore, give my opinions on, and draw several conclusions from this debate.
This ethnography is inherently biased (as all works are), and sprouts from my own experiences as an artist, someone who’s interested in technology, and most importantly, human. My opinions aren’t fact; don’t treat the points brought up in this paper as gospel.
I will lead this piece with 3 questions:
- What are the arguments for and against AI art proliferation?
- What is the current state of the AI generated art community?
- Can human artists and AI generators work together, and if so, what would that entail?
